Mary Vey Johnson – Duluth News Tribune


Mary Vey (De Vries) Johnson, 97, died Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Serenity Living Solutions in Remer, MN.

Mary was an active mother, grandparent, and homemaker who enjoyed traveling with her husband in the United States and abroad. They were stationed in Okinawa, Japan for two years with the US Air Force. She lived on a farm near Floodwood, MN for many years and retired to Lake Inguadona in the mid-1990s.

Marie was an accomplished gardener. She loved flowers and always had a large vegetable garden. She was an active member of the community church in Longville where she had many good friends who visited her regularly over the years. She also received loving care and support from the staff at Serenity where she spent her last seven years. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary DeVries; her husband of 67 years, Einard Johnson; an infant son; four sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by three children, Mark (Nancy) Johnson of Ajijic, Mexico, Gary (Linda) Johnson of Bellingham WA and Ann Hunter of Payton, AZ; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Rowe’s Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Duane Brown will officiate. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine, MN.
