The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has announced the extension of the subsidy program for the convention and exhibition industry for six months until December 31, 2022, in response to industry demand.
Part of the funding for the program will also be allocated to provide an immediate and one-time relief measure to private exhibition organizers who have clearly proven their worth in Hong Kong, to help them recover from the pandemic. The amount of the immediate relief will be equivalent to 20% of the average annual rental of the relevant exhibitions, subject to a cap of HK $ 1 million (US $ 128,500) per event.
Stuart Bailey, President of the Honk Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association (HKECIA), said: Exhibition organizers who can thus prepare for the revival of the industry.
Bailey added, “We continue to call on the government to provide a roadmap for easing quarantine measures for international business travelers so that the industry can once again host large-scale events. Without a proper plan in place, some trade shows will leave Hong Kong and then no help will be enough to save the industry. “
The government launched the program with a total commitment of HK $ 1.07 billion. It has been extended twice since its launch on October 3, 2020.
